Jungle Tour — Emerald Pool + Hot Spring Waterfall + Tiger Cave Temple + ATV

About this trip

This is the four stop version, and the only one of our Krabi jungle days that carries both Tiger Cave Temple and the ATV Forest Trail alongside the Emerald Pool and the Hot Spring Waterfall. That is the whole reason it exists. The temple version gives you the 1,260 steps and the mountain panorama; the ATV version gives you the off road forest ride; this one refuses to make you choose, and it does so at ฿1300 per adult and ฿1000 per child aged 4 to 10, the same price as the ATV tour that has one stop fewer. It leaves Ao Nang at 07:45 and gets you back around 17:00, roughly nine hours, lunch included.

What the day looks like

Hotel lobby pickup runs from 07:45 to 09:15, with a 07:45 departure, and the route heads inland from the coast into rainforest and limestone hills.

The Hot Spring Waterfall opens the day, natural freshwater hot spring pools in jungle, warm water in rock basins.

The Emerald Pool is next, at the end of a rainforest trail, a natural emerald colored pool clear enough that most people are in it within a minute of arriving.

The ATV Forest Trail brings the off road section: jungle terrain and forest paths, with the tour notes stating that the activity requires a safety briefing and basic driving ability.

Tiger Cave Temple closes the day. It is Krabi's famous forest temple, and the viewpoint at the top of its 1,260 steps looks out over the mountains. The notes are explicit that stair climbing is needed to reach that viewpoint. Four stops in nine hours is a genuinely full schedule, so expect the day to move.

Hotel transfer, lunch, a tour guide and insurance are included. The national park entrance fee is not, and the hot spring and Emerald Pool entrance fees are paid separately on the day.

Who this trip suits

This is for people with one free day in Krabi and an appetite for filling it, and for groups who cannot agree: the person who wants to ride, the person who wants the temple, and the person who just wants to swim all get their stop. It is the most stops per baht in the jungle range, which matters if you are only inland once.

It asks something of you in return. You need to be comfortable with an active day and, if you want the panorama, with climbing 1,260 steps in the afternoon after everything else. It is not the choice for a slow pace or for very young children.

If the schedule sounds like too much, the alternatives are simple. Drop the ATV and take the Tiger Cave Temple version at ฿1000, which is cheaper and less busy. Drop the temple and take the ATV version, same price as this one but one stop lighter, and no staircase. Drop both and the half day tour gives you just the pools, finishing at 15:00. Or swap the pair for kayaking at Ao Thalane on the kayaking version.

What to bring

Shoes that work for both an off road trail and a long staircase, since one pair has to do both jobs. Swimwear under your clothes and a towel. A change of clothes, because the ATV section will not leave you clean and you have a temple stop afterwards. Something to cover shoulders and knees for the temple. Sunscreen, a hat and plenty to drink, as drinking water is not among the listed inclusions on this tour. Cash, for the national park fee and for the charges at the hot spring and the Emerald Pool.

Good to know

November to April is Krabi's drier stretch and the easier one for both the trail and the steps. From May to October the monsoon means mud on the trail and slower going on the staircase. The program may change depending on weather conditions, and with four stops there is more that the weather can move around.

Across the day the entrance fees come to about ฿650 per adult and ฿325 per child aged 4 to 10: the Emerald Pool at ฿400 adult and ฿200 child, the Hot Spring Waterfall at ฿200 and ฿100, and Tiger Cave Temple at ฿50 and ฿25. Each one is charged per person and none of them is in the tour price.
