Jungle Tour — Emerald Pool + Hot Spring Waterfall + ATV Riding

About this trip

This is the jungle tour with an ATV ride in it. The Emerald Pool and the Hot Spring Waterfall are the constants across our Krabi jungle range, and what this version adds to them is the ATV Forest Trail: an off road ride through jungle terrain and forest paths, inland from Ao Nang and well away from the beach traffic. There is no temple and no staircase on this one, and no kayaking either. It is a full day with an early start, 07:45 to about 17:00, roughly nine hours, at ฿1300 per adult and ฿1000 per child aged 4 to 10, with lunch included.

What the day looks like

Pickup is from the hotel lobby between 07:45 and 09:15 and the tour departs at 07:45. The drive heads inland through Krabi's limestone country toward Klong Muang and the forest behind it.

The Hot Spring Waterfall is the soft opening: natural freshwater hot spring pools in a jungle setting, warm water collecting in rock, nothing to do but sit in it.

The Emerald Pool comes next, at the end of a rainforest trail. It is a natural emerald colored pool of fresh water and it is there to be swum in. The nature walk in and out is part of what you are paying for.

The ATV Forest Trail is the stop that makes this tour what it is. It is an off road ride on jungle terrain and forest paths, which means dirt, uneven ground and a machine underneath you rather than a footpath. The tour notes state that the ATV activity requires a safety briefing and basic driving ability, so it is not a passive stop, and if that description worries anyone in your group, say so before you book. Lunch is included, and hotel transfer, a tour guide and insurance come with the tour as well.

The national park entrance fee is not included. Entrance fees at the hot spring and the Emerald Pool are charged separately on the day, so carry cash.

Who this trip suits

Book this one if you want the jungle scenery and the two swimming stops but the thought of a quiet day makes you restless. It suits people who want a bit of throttle in the middle of the trip, and it suits mixed groups where somebody wants adventure and somebody wants a swim, since both are on the same itinerary. Because the ATV needs a safety briefing and basic driving ability, it is a better fit for adults and older children than for very small ones.

The rest of the range is easy to compare. If you want no third stop and a shorter, cheaper day, the half day version keeps the two pools and finishes at 15:00. If you want a temple and a viewpoint instead of a ride, take the version with Tiger Cave Temple and its climb to the viewpoint. If you want the ride and the temple in one day, there is a combination carrying both at the same ฿1300 as this tour. And if the water is what appeals, the kayaking version paddles the mangroves at Ao Thalane instead.

What to bring

Clothes and closed shoes you are happy to get dirty, because an off road forest trail is not a clean environment. Swimwear under those clothes and a towel for the two pools. A change of dry clothes for afterwards. Sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat. A dry bag or pouch for your phone, which is useful at the pools and sensible on the trail. Carry cash for the national park fee and for the two pool entrance fees. Drinking water is not listed among the inclusions on this tour, so bring some or ask us about it when you book.

Good to know

The dry months in Krabi, roughly November to April, keep the forest trails firmer. The monsoon, from May to October, makes them muddier, which some riders prefer and some do not. The program may change depending on weather conditions, and that call is made on the day.

Pickup is from the hotel lobby. The day is long, so plan a slow evening after it.

Across the day the entrance fees come to about ฿600 per adult and ฿300 per child aged 4 to 10: the Emerald Pool at ฿400 adult and ฿200 child, and the Hot Spring Waterfall at ฿200 and ฿100. Both are charged per person and neither is in the tour price.
