About this trip

What separates this jungle tour from the rest of the range is Tiger Cave Temple, and specifically its 1,260 steps. This is the temple version of our Krabi jungle day: the Emerald Pool and the Hot Spring Waterfall in the morning, then Krabi's famous forest temple, where a long staircase climbs to panoramic mountain views over the inland karst country. It leaves Ao Nang at 07:45 and returns around 17:00, about nine hours, and costs ฿1000 for an adult and ฿800 for a child aged 4 to 10, with lunch included. If the climb is not something you want to take on, one of our other jungle combinations will suit you better.

What the day looks like

Pickup is from your hotel lobby between 07:45 and 09:15, with the departure at 07:45. The route runs inland from the coast into rainforest.

The Hot Spring Waterfall comes first: natural freshwater hot spring pools set in jungle, and the most restful part of the day. Doing it before any climbing is the sensible order.

The Emerald Pool follows, reached along a rainforest trail. The pool is a natural emerald colored basin of fresh water, clear enough that people mostly get straight in. Lunch is included on this tour, so you are fed rather than rationing snacks.

Tiger Cave Temple is the last stop and the reason to book this version. It is a working forest temple, and the climb to the viewpoint is 1,260 steps, done in the open. What waits at the top is the panorama across the mountains and the flat green country around them. The notes on this tour say plainly that reaching the viewpoint requires stair climbing, so treat that as the defining feature rather than an optional extra. You are welcome to stay at the temple grounds below instead, but the climb is what most people come for.

Hotel transfer, drinking water, lunch, a tour guide and insurance are included. The national park entrance fee is not, and the hot spring and Emerald Pool entrance fees are charged separately on the day.

Who this trip suits

This is the jungle day for people who want something cultural and something physical in the same trip, and who like the idea of ending on a viewpoint rather than in a pool. If the 1,260 steps sound like a challenge you would enjoy, this is your tour. Anyone with knee trouble, anyone traveling with very young children, and anyone who would rather not be climbing in tropical heat should look at the alternatives instead.

Those alternatives are straightforward. The half day version keeps the two pools alone, finishes at 15:00 and costs less. The ATV version swaps the temple for an off road forest ride. The kayaking version swaps it for mangrove paddling at Ao Thalane. What to bring

Proper shoes matter more here than on any other tour in this range, because of the staircase. Bring swimwear under your clothes and a towel for the two pools. Bring plenty to drink beyond the drinking water provided, plus sunscreen and a hat for the climb. Shoulders and knees covered is the respectful choice at a temple, so pack something to change into or throw over. Cash for the national park fee and the two separate pool entrance fees.

Good to know

Krabi's high season, roughly November through April, is drier and the steps are easier going. In the monsoon months of May to October, expect rain to make both the trail and the staircase slower work. The program may change depending on weather conditions.

The day is a full one with an early start, running 07:45 to 17:00. Be in the hotel lobby inside your pickup window.

Across the day the entrance fees come to about ฿650 per adult and ฿325 per child aged 4 to 10: the Emerald Pool at ฿400 adult and ฿200 child, the Hot Spring Waterfall at ฿200 and ฿100, and Tiger Cave Temple at ฿50 and ฿25. Each one is charged per person and none of them is in the tour price.
